60 Tips

Happy Friday everyone!  I would like for everyone to start this weekend off by reading THIS.  It's a great post that I borrowed from Laura at  Absolut(ly) Fit.  Which one is your fav?  Today, I'm a fan of #28.

So, I'm now on day three of 'my back hurts like hell and I can't bend over'.  I am feeling better - but I'm on the fence about going to the doctor.  But this sucks.  I hate not being able to do whatever I want, whenever I want.  Crossfit this weekend?  I don't think so.  Quick dip in the pool?  Nope.  Ugh.  I will no doubt cherish my flexibility once this pain goes away!

I am so sorry that you are having back pain. I completely understand how much it takes out of you because I struggle with it all the time. Of course, right now I have a bruised coccyx and that really sucks! I hope you heal very quickly! I am sending healing vibes your way!

Never posted before, but I've been following your blog and love it!

Last year I "tweaked" my back with symptoms very similar to yours. Because I couldn't bend* I figured it was just muscular and would go away with some time off for yoga, etc. It took me a while to go to the doc and when I did I found out I had a damaged disc (HUGE bummer) from too much running (sad face). Turns out when you injure your back the muscles lock up to prevent you from injuring it any further, hence being unable to bend. Half of PT was getting the muscles to unlock and the other half was making my core strong, strong, strong and teaching me to use the right muscles for the right movements.

Even though I wish I was never injured, I'm back to running, stronger than ever and even finished a 100 mile trek through the Amazon in November. Go get yourself checked out. Until then my non-professional recommendation is do whatever motion you can (slow walking, etc.) and I buy biofreeze by the liter.

*and seriously, how annoying is that? I took for granted putting on socks until I threw out my back in Pittsburgh in December.

I am with Kat, go see a doctor. Better safe than sorry. After all, your not a youngster anymore. (That's an old guy joke)

They are all great -

31. Unplug your TV.

32. Sell your TV.

33. Read daily.

34. Avoid the news.

35. Be content with what you have.
